Eric Spackey

Eric is currently the CEO of Bluewater Defense with over 30 years of experience leading finance, development and operations of successful start-ups in healthcare, wireless telecom, internet and manufacturing. Prior to joining BWD, he was CEO of ShippingPal.com, an Internet start-up in Toronto. Prior to ShippingPal, Mr. Spackey held senior leadership roles in a number of successful wireless telecommunication startups, eventually becoming seconded to AT&T Wireless International to lead business development and regulatory affairs in the Caribbean. In this role, he worked closely with the senior leadership of local and national government, finance, network infrastructure and handset providers, including: Carlyle Group, CL Financial, MC Venture Partners, Siemens, Nortel, Lucent, MCI, Panasonic.

Joyce Brown

Joyce Brown

Dr. Joyce F. Brown is president of the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), a specialized college of art and design, business and technology of the State University of New York (SUNY). Appointed in 1998, she is the college’s sixth president.

Dr. Brown, a highly regarded educator and academic administrator, has had over 35 years experience in public higher education. She held a number of senior administrative posts at the City University of New York (CUNY) before arriving at FIT, including acting president of Bernard Baruch College and vice chancellor of the university. Prior to her appointment at FIT, she was professor of clinical psychology at the Graduate School and University Center of CUNY, where she is currently professor emerita. Dr. Brown also served as a New York City deputy mayor for public and community affairs during the David Dinkins administration.

David Wheeler

 Dave Wheeler is Executive Vice President of Value Chain and Chief Supply Chain Officer at New Balance Athletic Corporation based in Boston, Massachusetts. In his role, Dave’s responsible for the company’s end-to-end global supply chain operations including demand forecasting, supply planning, research & development, factory of the future innovation, strategic sourcing, domestic manufacturing, global transportation and distribution – delivering more than 90 million pair of athletic shoes and 10 million garments sourced from 14 countries globally. 

Dave earned a B.S.E.E. from Merrimack College and an M.B.A. from Miami University. He resides in the Boston area with his wife of 27 years and two daughters.

Mass Tech is a state economic development agency whose mission is to strengthen the tech & innovation economy across a variety of industries including advanced manufacturing, cybersecurity, digital health and other emerging tech areas such as artificial intelligence, fintech, and robotics.

Chairman, General Paul Kern (retired)

General Paul J. Kern has an extremely distinguished record of service to our nation, including two tours of duty in Vietnam and service with the 24th Infantry Division during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. General Kern was Commanding General of the Army Materiel Command, and Military Deputy to the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics, and Technology. He was also Commander of the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) and Senior Military Assistant to the Secretary of Defense and Deputy Secretary of Defense. At the conclusion of his military career, General Kern led the investigation into Abu Ghraib and continues to work with the Center for Victims of Torture.

Norman Chapman is the President and COO of Inman Mills. Inman is a textile company located in South Carolina with 700 employees. Inman’s products include fire retardant fabrics for bedding and apparel, industrial fabrics including beltings, thermoplastic composite prepregs, workwear, and sportswear.

Norman holds a B.S. in Economics from Clemson University. He has served on numerous professional and nonprofit boards in leadership positions including the Southeastern Apparel and Textile Association, National Council of Textile Organizations, Inman Mills, B2B Media, Carolina Alliance Bank, Wofford College Presidents Advisory Board, Clemson Board of Visitors, Chamber of Commerce, United Way, and AFFOA.

Fry set out to transform Drexel into what he has termed the “modern urban university of the future”—an institution that harnesses both its long-established and still-emerging strengths to serve its students, its neighborhood, its city and the nation. Under Fry’s leadership, Drexel is setting a new standard for cooperative education, transforming its online and hybrid offerings, and becoming a powerful force for economic development in the Greater Philadelphia region. Fry led the University community’s collaboration on a five-year strategic plan, launched in 2012, to guide the pursuit of those goals.

Charles Howland

Charles Howland is President and Chief Engineer of Warwick Mills based in New Ipswich, NH.  Howland is the author of over 60 patents or patents pending on textile constructions, specializing in material science solutions for aerospace textiles, protective garments and body armor, needle-resistant fabrics, cut-resistant gloves, impermeable laminates for chemical and biological hazards among others. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Over the course of thirty years of material science work, Howland has focused on improving a substrate’s adhesion performance by investigating the surface analysis and surface modification technologies for products involving coating, lamination and mosaic assembly.

During his career, he has been instrumental in raising more than $450 million in private and public equity and debt financing, has played a key role in business development and strategic planning functions and has successfully guided three companies through the initial public offering process. Prior to joining Homology, Mr. Smith served as Chief Financial Officer of Ocular Therapeutix, Inc., where he led the company’s strategic financings, including an initial public offering and subsequent follow-on offerings, and completed a development and commercialization deal with a major biopharmaceutical company. Previously, Mr. Smith served as CFO of five other companies, including OmniGuide Surgical, NeuroMetrix, Inc., SYNARC, PatientKeeper, Inc. and Focal, Inc. Mr. Smith holds a B.S. in Biology from Tufts University and an M.B.A. from the Whittemore School at the University of New Hampshire, and he became a Certified Public Accountant while working at Coopers & Lybrand.

Maria Zuber is the E. A. Griswold Professor of Geophysics and Vice President for Research at MIT, where she is responsible for research administration and policy. She oversees MIT Lincoln Laboratory and more than a dozen interdisciplinary research laboratories and centers, including the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, the MIT Energy and Environmental Solutions Initiatives, the Plasma Science and Fusion Center, the Research Laboratory of Electronics, the Institute for Soldier Nanotechnologies, and Haystack Observatory. Vice President Zuber is also responsible for intellectual property and research integrity and compliance, as well as research relationships with the federal government.
